Where wood, craftsmanship and heart set the tone

At home with biathlete Anna Weidel

When you enter biathlete Anna Weidel's home, you immediately sense that there is personality in every detail. Since 2022, she has lived with her boyfriend and their two dogs in the modern, warmly designed home, which has matured into her own personal retreat after a lengthy construction phase.

Anna's partner, a skilled craftsman with a keen sense of design, designed and built many of the most beautiful elements himself - always with an eye for sustainability and style.

Naturalness with a system - parquet as the centrepiece

The high-quality oak parquet runs harmoniously through the interior. It is not only of lasting value and elegant, but also easy to clean - even the two dogs leave no visible marks on the velvety matt surface.

But what characterises the couple in particular: Nothing is wasted. The parquet remnants were turned into real works of art. On the ground floor, they were turned into a stylish coffee bar, practical shelves and a sliding door that runs elegantly in front of the pantry - made exclusively from JOKA parquet planks. The bench in the window area and the pull-outs underneath also bear a personal signature: customised, functional, beautiful.

"We wanted every piece of wood to tell a story - and nothing to just lie around or be thrown away," says Anna.

Doors with character

The doors fit perfectly into the harmonious overall picture. Oak doors with glass elements allow light to flow through the rooms and break up the rustic look with a modern lightness. In addition, CPL doors in an oak look ensure suitability for everyday use - easy to clean and hard-wearing.

For the door handles, the Bavarian by choice opted for a Smart Lock system - modern, secure and elegant at the same time. The cashmere grey colour blends gently into the overall look and has a softer effect than classic black. "I like it when design is practical - in our home, everything should work but still look nice," says Anna.

Old values, new forms

The past and modernity come together in the hallway on the upper floor: a chest from 1874 and old farmhouse furniture tell stories - and form an exciting contrast to the clear, straightforward design of the house.

Top floor with added value

Anna Weidel's versatile everyday life can be seen at the very top of the house. The attic is a real multifunctional space - it's a place to play pool, chill out, work and train. In addition to a cosy place to sleep and a desk for Anna's law studies, there is also space for light strength and dry training - just like a disciplined sportswoman.

Outside at home - the patio

The outdoor area also shows that quality pays off. The decking boards in a sophisticated graphite look have proven to be durable and easy to care for. Although the dogs regularly romp around here, you can hardly see the wear and tear on the boards. They have become a shade lighter over time, but after every steam cleaning they shine like new - proof of their robustness and timeless beauty.

Between biathlon and architecture

In addition to her lovingly designed home, Anna naturally also focuses on sport. Born in Austria, she has been a member of the German national biathlon squad for many years and has won several IBU Cup and World Cup competitions. At the beginning of 2025, she won gold in the relay at the European Championships - achievements that reflect her ambition and perseverance.

"Sport has taught me to be patient - that also helps when building a house. In the end, every detail is worth it if you're passionate about it," says the biathlete.

Anna Weidel combines sporting precision with a passion for craftsmanship. Her home is not a showroom, but a place of lived authenticity - with floors, doors and floorboards that tell stories. And while the dogs play outside and the parquet shimmers in the sunlight inside, it becomes clear that not only has a house been built here, but a home has been created.
