A home where you can breathe easy
Newly built, newly furnished and entirely personalised: presenter Julia Nestle and her partner have realised their dream of owning their own home. For two people whose daily lives are shaped by radio, presenting and a busy schedule, it was meant above all to be a place of retreat – a place they love coming back to.
“That feeling of being at home is the best feeling! As we’re on the move a lot, it was important to us to create a place where we can walk through the front door beaming and take a deep breath.”
Parquet flooring with a personal history
The JOKA Calgary Oak Barrique Villa parquet flooring is a special feature throughout the house. On the ground floor and first floor, this characterful oak parquet extends generously and seamlessly through the hallway, kitchen, living and dining areas. The decision to choose this particular floor was made on the spur of the moment – and even had a personal connection:
“We fell in love with the parquet at first sight. The colour, the texture – it’s simply brilliant.”

The fact that the parquet flooring is named after the Canadian city of Calgary made the choice even more special for Julia: her brother lives there with his family. “It was fate, so to speak,” she says. What’s more, the floor isn’t just there to look at: “We often walk barefoot even in winter because we love the feel of it underfoot.”
Julia’s favourite spot? The kitchen, without a doubt. The spacious cooking island, where she absolutely loves to cook, forms the centrepiece of the room and provides a striking contrast to the oak parquet flooring. The fact that the couple opted for parquet flooring in the kitchen was exactly the right choice for them: “Lots of people advised against it, saying it wouldn’t be robust enough for the kitchen. But that’s not the case at all – we’re absolutely delighted.”

Peace and quiet thanks to the doors
Between the hallway and the living-dining area, the JOKA loft door with clear glass provides an elegant partition. “This creates a certain cosiness and keeps the cool air from the hallway out in winter.” Care has also been taken to ensure that the doors on the upper floor close quietly. The flush-fitting, white-lacquered JOKA doors with graphite-black handles not only look modern but also ensure that one person can carry on sleeping as long as possible whilst the other has to get up early in the morning.

A soft landing
“When you start work at 5 o’clock every morning, there’s simply nothing better than stepping straight onto this soft, fluffy carpet as soon as you get out of bed.”
The JOKA ‘Trend Dolce’ carpet in Silver Gloss is laid generously, making even choosing what to wear first thing in the morning a pleasant experience.

Stone-effect flooring in the cellar
Things are a bit more rustic in Julia’s ‘treasure trove of food’: the JOKA design flooring in the Bright Concrete finish brings a silver-grey stone look to the larder. Practical, understated and just right for all sorts of delicious provisions.

A bit of a stadium at home
Things are quite different in the football cellar. JOKA Holiday Florida artificial turf provides the perfect surface for Daniel’s passion for football. On the walls, Julia’s partner has hung his favourite shirts and a framed ticket from the 2013 Champions League final at Wembley.
“I think Daniel’s football cellar is brilliant! It’s the most popular room when we have guests, and it’s also quick and easy to keep clean.”
As different as the rooms may be, they all say something about the people who live here: about evenings spent together, early mornings listening to the radio, a passion for cooking, football and those little moments when you simply enjoy being at home.
